Keith Young: THE Spring Games Housing Director Earns National Rowing Team Selection

CLERMONT, FL — THE Spring Games is thrilled to recognize our very own Housing Director, Keith Young, on his incredible accomplishment of earning a spot on a national rowing team.

Keith’s journey with rowing began in 1985 as a freshman at the University of Central Florida, where he rowed under Coach Kamrad. From the start, he showed the grit and determination that have carried through every chapter of his career. A key influence has been his longtime mentor, Coach Cara, who guided Keith throughout his many coaching stints and remains a source of inspiration today.

Over the past several decades, Keith has coached at nearly every level of the sport — middle school, high school, college, and Masters — leading teams across central Florida. His résumé includes national championship gold medals with women’s programs, as well as national champions at nearly every level except middle school. His ability to connect with athletes and foster success has made him one of the region’s most respected rowing coaches.

But Keith’s most recent achievement is personal. After stepping away from competition for many years, he returned to rowing within the last two years and has taken his training to new heights in recent months. With renewed dedication, he shed weight, built tremendous strength, and threw himself into the grind of elite training. At a recent camp, he rowed a staggering 75,000 meters in just three days — a testament to his relentless drive.

That effort helped secure his selection to a national rowing team, a group that draws only the best athletes from across the country. It’s a remarkable honor and one that reflects Keith’s perseverance, discipline, and passion for the sport.

At THE Spring Games, Keith is best known for ensuring that thousands of athletes and teams have a smooth and enjoyable stay through his role as Housing Director. Now, his colleagues, athletes, and the broader softball community are cheering him on as he achieves greatness in a sport he has dedicated so much of his life to.

“We’re so proud of Keith,” said THE Spring Games staff. “His story is proof that it’s never too late to set new goals and chase them with everything you have.”
