Rowan Softball Pitching Staff Dominates in 2025, Eyes Continued Success in 2026

The Rowan softball squad is led by legendary Coach Kim Wilson

In a season filled with elite offenses and championship aspirations across NCAA Division III softball, one thing stood above the rest in 2025: no team was harder to score against than Rowan University.

The Profs’ pitching staff delivered a season for the ages, finishing first in all of Division III in fewest runs allowed, setting a national benchmark for run prevention and consistency in the circle.

Run Prevention at a Historic Level

Across the 2025 season, Rowan pitchers allowed just 58 total runs, the lowest total in Division III softball. That dominance fueled a remarkable 49–4 overall record, as opponents struggled to generate any sustained offense against the Profs.

As a staff, Rowan posted:

  • 1.02 team ERA

  • 0.89 WHIP

  • 335.2 innings pitched

  • 235 strikeouts

  • Only 76 walks allowed

  • Opponent batting average: .189

The numbers tell the story of a group that controlled counts, attacked the strike zone, and never gave opponents opportunities to build momentum.

A Rotation Built to Win Championships

Rowan’s success was anchored by a deep and disciplined pitching staff that delivered every time the ball was handed over.

Emily McCutcheon was a cornerstone of the rotation, posting a 0.90 ERA across 140.1 innings. Her ability to manage games, limit damage, and execute in high-leverage situations played a critical role in Rowan’s historic run-prevention numbers.

Supporting arms stepped up throughout the season, as Beth Doderer and Maddie Cooley each delivered quality innings and proved the staff’s depth was just as dangerous as its top-end talent. Every appearance mattered, and every pitcher answered the call.

Making Every Run Earned

Rowan didn’t just limit runs — they eliminated mistakes. Free passes were rare, extra-base hits were scarce, and pressure situations were handled with poise and precision. Complete games and shutouts became routine as the season progressed, reinforcing the staff’s reputation as the most disciplined unit in Division III.

Opponents averaged fewer than two runs per game, and many never reached that mark at all.

Looking Ahead: The 2026 Pitching Staff

With a historic 2025 season in the books, Rowan enters 2026 with a pitching staff that blends experience, youth, and upside — positioning the Profs to remain among the nation’s elite.

The 2026 staff will feature:

  • Senior Emily McCutcheon, returning as the veteran leader in the circle

  • Sophomore Beth Doderer, coming off a breakout campaign

  • Sophomore Maddie Cooley, continuing to develop as a reliable arm

  • Sophomore transfer Ava Fisher, adding depth and versatility

  • First-year Emma Dobkin, an exciting new addition to the staff

With McCutcheon’s leadership anchoring a talented young core, Rowan’s pitching future is as promising as its recent past. The combination of battle-tested experience and emerging talent ensures the Profs will once again be built to control games from the circle.

The Standard in Division III Softball

Pitching wins championships, and Rowan University has proven that truth season after season. After redefining dominance in 2025, the Profs now turn the page toward 2026 with a staff poised to defend that standard.

If history is any indication, scoring runs against Rowan will remain one of the toughest challenges in NCAA Division III softball.
